Connecticut National Guard to welcome 70 of its members home

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - About 70 members of the Connecticut National Guard are being welcomed home from a deployment to Poland.

The Connecticut National Guard says that the Waterbury-based Guard's 143rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is returning Friday after spending nearly a year overseas.

The unit provided logistical support in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, an exercise meant to allay concerns in Eastern Europe over an increasingly bellicose Russia. Some of its members also went to Germany and Latvia to support exercises there.

Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman say they plan to greet the unit when they arrive at the Windsor Locks Readiness Center.

Malloy says they represent the "very best of our country."

The unit previously deployed to Kuwait in 2013, Iraq in 2006 and Bosnia in 2001.
